A lot of pizzeria owners practice the belief that “if my pizza is good enough, crowds will come.” While that may be true in some cases, a little creativity can really jump-start a boost in sales.
Attempt catering- birthdays, rehearsal dinners, kids’ parties, family reunions- anything! Just put yourself out there and make it known that you would be interested in delivering mountains of pizzas for any occasion. Or, provide or rent out space in your restaurant for private parties to come to you. This option is ideal as the pizzas will definitely be fresh and made to order.
Start a “pizza bar” one night a week. If it’s a hit, do it more! Put mounds of toppings out buffet style along with some pre-cooked crust and let customers create their own masterpieces. Once the customer is done, a chef can pop it in a broiler and voilà! No complaints if it’s not perfect- what they make is what they get! This could also be used as a fun kid’s party or company event.
Try partnering with surrounding restaurants and stores that don’t specialize in pizza but would be interested in offering it on their menus. Bake it fresh, freeze it up, send it on its way! You just saved yourself some labor because you’re not adding to wait staff’s time as far as serving and cleaning up, and you’re still selling pizzas.
Reap the benefits of putting unique specials on magnetic advertising pieces that will stay in clients’ homes and on their minds. Hand them out at the counter, with delivery orders or take out orders. Try making the specials for days that don’t typically generate a lot of regular business. Do a kid’s night where personal pizzas are half price, or sell by the slice instead of having to order a whole pie. Try a buy one, get one free, or buy a bottle of wine and you get pizza at 20% off. Sponsor some pool parties in the summer- $1 per slice. At lunch, offer a combo meal with one to two slices of pizza, a salad and drink.
Pizzas of the week at a discount are always fun. They also give regulars a chance to try something new. Use this promotion to really show off your artistic flare and have a little fun.
Whatever you do, get creative; stand out! Don’t blend in with competitors, do something new and get ready to fire up the oven!
